Dove Energy Ltd has a 50% share in Block 29/20c with PA Resources (formerly Scotsdale Petroleum), the Operator. The Block lies in the northern part of the West Auk sub-basin, flanked to the northeast by the Auk Ridge and to the west by the eastern margins of the Mid North Sea High. It covers an area of 38 sq km in water depths of 280ft. One unsuccessful well, 29/20b-2, has been drilled on the Block and it terminated in the Triassic. The Group purchased and reprocessed a 2D seismic grid over the Block and followed this up with the acquisition of 3D seismic at the end of 2008.
The Block has an Upper Jurassic section that thins rapidly westwards. Composed of 300 ft of sand in well 29/20-1, immediately to the NE of the block, the section is absent in well 29/20b-2. The Lower Cretaceous sequence, which can contain sandstone intervals, thickens to the SW. Both are potentially sourced by hydrocarbons migrating up-dip from mature Upper Jurassic shales in the Central Graben to the north. Structural traps can be predicted, formed by the NWSE trending faults, with stratigraphic trapping elements in both the thinning Lower Cretaceous and Upper Jurassic sections.
The 3D seismic is expected to be available for interpretation during the second quarter of 2009.
